An Electrifying Experience

Once again, reality pictures has teamed up with BMW to present a brand new vehicle.

reality pictures had the pleasure of collaborating with some talented and visionary minds to shoot the BMW i3, the first all-electric model from BMW.

Director Kim Takal and director of photography Bill Ahrens joined forces to film the revolutionary BMW i3 at various locations in beautiful San Diego, California. The three-day shoot was an opportunity for the reality pictures team to shoot choreographed and cast lifestyle scenarios, a departure from the typical high performance running footage used to showcase other cars.

The San Diego crew filmed with live actors to highlight the performance and versatility of the car in urban and suburban settings. Against the backdrop of downtown San Diego’s striking architecture, Takal and Ahrens captured gorgeous footage of the i3 in action, amid excited reactions from passersby admiring the new model.

The San Diego crew also employed an array of top-notch equipment to masterfully represent the finest features of the vehicle. The crew used Sony F3 and F5 cameras with AngĂ©nieux lenses. AngĂ©nieux is the original in retrofocus technology, whose superior ultra-wide lenses match their ultra-wide use in the film industry. In addition to the Russian Arm that reality typically uses, the team incorporated a steadicam. The steadicam allowed Takal and Ahrens to produce truly beautiful, dynamic and different footage of the i3.

The production culminated a month later in a two-day studio shoot at Buttertree Studios in East Hanover, New Jersey. On this shoot, Takal collaborated with director of photography Patricio Suarez to introduce the unique and easy-to-use features of the all-new electric car.
